Blog Menu

Colorado is a mecca for skiers and snowboarders in the U.S., with thousands flocking to Colorado’s top resorts every winter! But are you the type who likes to beat the crowds? Do you want to skip the over-the-top, overpriced luxury resorts and ridiculous lines for the lifts and instead check out these secret places to hit the slopes in Colorado! These lesser-known gems will give you more time to shred the gnar (or glide peacefully if that’s more your speed) on awesome, uncrowded hills for a much lower price!

Monarch MountainMonarch

Skiers love this resort for its affordable lift prices, uncrowded atmosphere, short lines, and great lesson program! But the beauty of Monarch Mountain doesn't end there! Located in the stunning Gunnison National Forest, the views are breathtaking! Sure, it’s not the biggest resort around, but there’s something for everyone, including the extreme terrain of the Mirkwood Basin! You really can’t go wrong with Monarch Mountain!

You won’t get much closer to the fun of Monarch Mountain than when you choose one of the six awesome campgrounds at Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area! It’s just a short drive to Monarch Mountain, and most campgrounds feature vault toilets and changing areas and are all open year-round (weather permitting!). Visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website for more info!

Winter Park ResortWinter Park

This park is definitely one of Colorado’s best low-key resorts! It’s tucked into the mountains around Winter Park, which sits about 70 miles west of Denver, but if you’re looking for a more secluded and down-to-earth skiing experience, this is the resort for you!

With 3,081 acres of terrain, this park contains two mountains (one for beginners and one for experts) and plenty of other fun runs for everyone in between!
